परिचयः Introduction

तेलुगुलिप्यां मुद्रितः ग्रन्थोऽयं संस्कृते लघुकथानाम् अत्युत्तमः सङ्ग्रहः। सङ्क्षिप्ततया रचिताः कथा एताः बालानामत्यन्तमुपयोगाय सन्ति। एताः कथाः विविधैः पुस्तकैः स्वीकृताः, सरलभाषायां लेखकेन कल्पिताश्च। प्रारम्भे लघुप्रमाणकाः, शनैः शनैः बृहत्यः च कथाः कल्पिताः। दीर्घसमासाः त्यक्ताः, विसन्धिता एव आचरिता। प्रारम्भिकाणां सौकर्यार्थमेवं कृतं लेखकेनेति तदीयोपोद्घातेन ज्ञायते। कथासु पर्यायपदानामुपयोगः मह्यमत्यन्तमरोच। प्रारम्भकथायां यथा कुक्कुरः, शुनकः भषकः इति एकस्यैव त्रीणि पदानि प्रयुक्तानि। अनेन अनासक्तिनिवारणं भवति, पदज्ञानमपि वर्धेत।

            अत्र सङ्घटनैः, पात्राणां सम्भाषण-माध्यमेन च नीतिः, युक्तयः, विवेकः, धर्मः, सामाजिकतेत्यादीनि मूल्यानि सुष्टु ज्ञापितानि। वास्तवतायाः चित्रणं बहुधा प्रशंसार्हम्। मानवजीवनोपयोगिनः बहवः विषयाः अस्मिन् सरलायां भाषायां सङ्गृहीताः। पठनेन व्यवहारविज्ञानेन सह, सम्भाषणकौशलमपि वर्धेत। भाषाज्ञानं तु सहजमेव जायेत।

            अस्य सङ्ग्रहस्य आङ्ग्ले तेलुगौ चानुवादः मया कृतः। यथाशक्ति संस्कृतवाक्यम् आश्रित्यैव तेलुगौ आङ्ग्ले च वाक्यं कल्पितम्। विमर्शरूपेण यत्किञ्चित् कथां पठित्वा मम मनसि भाति स्म तत् सर्वं विलिख्य स्थापितमत्र। (तस्य अनुवादः न दत्तः। कार्यभारात्)
हिन्द्यनुवादनं तु मदीया संस्कृतभगिनी आयुष्मती कामिनी सोनी कृतवती। ब्लाग्-उपरि आरोपितुं झटिति अनुमतिं दत्तवत्यै तस्यै बहवः धन्यवादाः।

            शिक्षकाणामुपयोगाय छात्रेभ्यः बोधनाय च शिक्षणसामग्रीरूपेण कठिन-शब्दानामर्थाः, प्रश्नाः च मया निर्मिताः। अस्य पठनं कृत्वा अभ्यासार्थं प्रश्नानां समाधानानि कुर्वन्तु। अन्यभारतीयभाषासु अनुवादनमपि शक्यते। दत्तान् अनुवादान् उपयुज्य शब्दार्थान् अन्यभाषासु कर्तुमपि शक्यते। प्रयासोयं उपयोगाय भवेदिति आशासे।

This book which is published in Telugu script, is a great collection of very short stories. These, which are composed very briefly, are useful for children. These have been taken from different books and rewritten by the writer. They are smaller in size in the beginning and larger, as the stories progress. Long compounds are avoided, and sandhis are not employed. This is done so by the writer, for the convenience of the beginners, as he mentions in the introduction of his book. I really liked the usage of synonyms in the stories. In the very first story, he uses three different words for a dog- कुक्कुरः, शुनकः भषकः। This removes monotony and helps in improving the vocabulary.

            Morals, tricks, wisdom, dharma, sociality etc. are very well expressed and explained through the incidents and the characters in these stories. The portraying of reality is praiseworthy. Many things which are useful for human life are well conceived through a simple language. Along with the practical worldly knowledge, conversing skills also get improved. Language is, however, naturally improved.

            The English and Telugu translation is done by me. As far as possible, the Telugu and English sentences are in accordance with Sanskrit sentence. (=The pattern is retained). I have written the विमर्शः based upon whatever is felt as I read the story. (But its translation is not given for fear of additional pressure).

            The Hindi translation is done by Ms. Kamini Soni. Many Thanks and blessings to her, that she immediately consented for using her work on the blog.

            I added sections like, meanings for the tough words, and questions for the convenience and utility of the teachers, to use these as a learning module, while explaining to students. Please read the stories and try to write answers for the questions, for practice. One can even translate into other Indian languages as well. Using the translation, one can also add word meanings etc. in other Indian languages. I hope this effort will be of some use.
